Josh Zender

Associate Professor of Accounting & MBA Coordinator

Biography: 

 

Joshua R. Zender teaches corporate social responsibility, ethics, financial, managerial, cost, government, and nonprofit accounting.  His research interests include performance measurement, sustainability reporting, public financial management, and exploring key emerging issues in accounting.  He has published in Strategic Finance, Journal of Government Financial Management, Treasury Management, and Journal of Business, Accounting, and Finance.  Other intellectual contributions include book chapters and instructor guides for McGraw-Hill, Palgrave-MacMillan, and IMA publishing.   

In other capacities within the university, Zender served the Master of Business Administration (MBA) program as former Program Coordinator (2017-2020).  He has been elected Secretary/Treasurer of the General Faculty Assembly and a research fellow of Humboldt Institute for Interdisciplinary Marijuana Research.  He has extensive engagement with students in his capacity as the advisor of the Humboldt Accounting and Finance Club and campus ambassador for the Institute of Management Accountants.     

In a community capacity, he has served as a board member and researcher for the California State and Federal Credit Union, CalCPA-Humboldt Del Norte Discussion Group, Humboldt Area Foundation, and Pearson Higher Education Scholarship Selection Committee.  Before joining Cal Poly Humboldt, Zender served as a municipal finance manager and lecturer in the Seattle, WA region. 

Zender is an active Certified Public Accountant in the State of California.  He is also a Certified Internal Auditor, Certified Information Technology Professional, Certified QuickBooks Pro Advisor, Certified Government Auditing Professional, Certified Global Management Accountant, and Certified Government Financial Manager.
