Kate Lancaster

Kate Lancaster is committed to reducing her impact on the environment by living close to campus, practicing permaculture and growing much of her household's food. She is a puppy raiser for Guide Dogs of America and enjoys long walks with her dogs. Dr. Lancaster also enjoys traveling without an itinerary and is an avid eclectric reader. Dr. Lancaster teaches in both the undergraduate and graduate programs.
Dr. Lancaster is actively involved in advancing the inclusion of sustainability into the decision making process in many types of organizations. Prior to starting at Cal Poly Humboldt, she served as Chair of the Cal Poly Academic Senate Sustainability Committee, was a member of the San Luis Obispo Chamber of Commerce Sustainability Committee, and a member of the Executive Committee for the Western Regional American Accounting Association. She currently serves on the Sustainability Committee at Cal Poly Humboldt.
Her research has focused on environmental disclosures, sustainability accounting, and learning pedagogy. Most recently, she co-authored a chapter in the Encyclopedia of Sustainability, Volume 2: The Business of Sustainability and completed work for Ernst & Young that provides interested faculty with the resources to incorporate sustainability into their accounting courses. Her other papers have been published in the Journal of Information Systems, The Journal of Business and Behavioral Sciences and Issues in Accounting Education. She has consulted with faculty from several academic institutions as they incorporate sustainability into their curriculum.
Dr. Lancaster retired as an Associate Professor from Humboldt where she taught accounting and sustainbality for years. She has now returned as a Lecturer. Previous to her employment at Humboldt, she was at Cal Poly State University, Bainbridge Graduate Institute, Presidio Graduate School and Alliant International University where she taught graduate and undergraduate levels of Sustainable Business Practices, Financial and Managerial Accounting, Advanced Managerial Accounting, Finance, Accounting and the Triple Bottom Line, Research and Quantitative Methods, and Sustainability Research, Accounting, and Reporting.
